Lyle Hawkins, CEO
Lyle has over ten years of new business development and funding for a broad range of devices, services, and products within the medical, pharmaceutical, fast-moving-consumer goods, and commercial market sectors. As the CEO of Intralink-Spine, Inc. Lyle developed the business plan, constructed the Board, and negotiated a Strategic Partner relationship with a global medical partner, while leading the company toward CE commercialization. As the CEO, Lyle has also developed the vision and secured the funding for various business start-ups.
From a corporate perspective, he has led global transition teams and held executive roles in strategic and global product planning for various Fortune 500 companies such as Landmark Earth Solutions (Division of Leggett & Platt), Robert Bosch and Vermont American (Division of Emerson Electronics).
He has had various articles published in the areas of strategic planning, employee engagement, and product planning. He has also owned and operated a full-service marketing and advertising firm. Lyle has an MBA from Bellarmine University and a BS from Florida State University. He is also an adjunct faculty member at Indiana Wesleyan University.
Elsa Abruzzo, VP Regulatory
Elsa Abruzzo is CrossCoat Medical’s Vice President of Regulatory Affairs. She brings to CrossCoat Medical a
25+ year successful regulatory, quality, clinical, and operations track record. Most recently as Founder and CEO of Cygnus Regulatory, her areas of expertise include cardiovascular, neurovascular, orthopedic, CRM, diagnostic imaging, mHealth, Health IT, and point of care diagnostics. An exceptional relationship builder, Elsa successfully headed numerous project teams at a variety of start-ups. Prior to Cygnus, Ms. Abruzzo worked at companies such as Baxter, Cordis JNJ, CryoLife, Percutaneous Valve Technologies (acquired by Edwards LifeSciences), AtriCure, and Polymer Technology Systems Cardiochek.
Ms. Abruzzo’s regulatory strategies have resulted in global commercialization of numerous technologies. Some of the disruptive medical solutions Elsa helped bring to market include: transcatheter tissue heart valves, implantable biomaterials, surgical adhesives, embolic agents, stents, atrial fibrillation ablation devices, neuromodulation devices, and point of care analyzers. Ms. Abruzzo has a B.S. in engineering from the University of Miami (Coral Gables, FL), is regulatory affairs certified (RAC), and a Fellow of the Regulatory Affairs Professional Society (FRAPS) Fellow.
Dr. Tom Hedman, CSO
Tom Hedman, PhD., Orthopeutics’ founder and CrossCoat Medical’s CSO, has been involved in orthopedic research and development since 1983, with a focus on soft-tissue biomechanics since 1985. His graduate bioengineering training was at MIT and the University of Strathclyde. Dr. Hedman is currently an Associate Professor at The University of Kentucky in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and an Associate Professor at Texas A&M University in the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
Dr. Hedman is a recognized pioneer in the spine field with over 25 years of experience in both the academic and entrepreneurial realms. He has made over 100 presentations at national and international conferences and has over 65 peer-reviewed published articles. He is a reviewer for U.S. NIH grants and various technical journals. He has been active in interdisciplinary research training of medical students and residents, and has been the thesis committee chair for 12 Masters and PhD students. He currently has more than 20 issued or pending patents, beginning with the first of its kind “2nd generation” disc replacement device issued in 1988. .
